纯氧可对大脑造成损伤
最新的研究表明吸入纯氧实际上能损伤大脑，在纯氧中掺入二氧化碳可以保护病人的大脑。
美国加利福尼亚大学的研究学者使用MRI获取详细的图像资料，关于两个不同呼吸组大脑中发生的变化。研究学者扫描了14个健康儿童的大脑，这些儿童的年龄在8到15岁，并且监测当他们通过特殊装置吸入100%纯氧2分钟后呼吸和心率的变化。8分钟后直到最小的儿童呼吸恢复到正常，一组研究对象在所呼吸的氧气中添加5%的二氧化碳，并重复刚才的扫描工作。对照组和研究组的比较表明两者间存在显著的差别。

Basedontheirfindings,theresearchersstronglyencouragehealthcareproviderstoaddcarbondioxidetooxygendispensation,especiallywhenresuscitatinginfantsoradministeringoxygenformorethanafewminutes.Thenewdirectioncouldholdparticularimplicationsforpatientsofstroke,heartattack,carbonmonoxidepoisoning,andanylong-termoxygentherapy.
